Foxconn Tries to Lure New Workers by Hiking Pay Package for Recruits

Major Apple supplier Foxconn has hiked the pay and bonus packages for new workers at its biggest iPhone plant at Zhengzhou, China. This news comes ahead of the debut of the iPhone 15, which is expected to launch in September this year.

Foxconn Planning to Ramp up iPhone Production

According to an SCMP report, new employees at the Zhengzhou factory will get up to 3,000 yuan ($424) in bonuses for completing at least 90 days of factory work. Meanwhile, they'll earn an hourly wage of up to 21 yuan per hour.

Foxconn, in a public WeChat post, also announced that existing factory workers will receive a 500 yuan ($70.49) bonus for every referral. The employee will also get a 1 rmb ($0.14) increase in hourly pay.

As Apple tries to gradually shift its manufacturing base away from mainland China, a majority of iPhones are still made in the country. Foxconn's Zhengzhou plant still reigns supreme as the biggest iPhone manufacturer in the world, and it appears that the company is trying to ramp up production ahead of the iPhone 15 launch.

Back in April, Foxconn unveiled a new "global business base" in Zhengzhou, in an attempt to cement its relationship with China. Later, Foxconn chairman Liu Young-way visited Chengdu and announced that the firm doesn't intend to leave the city and its major production base in the region.

Foxconn Continues India Expansion Plans

Foxconn's expansion in China hasn't put a brake on its plans for India, as the firm is planning to build two more buildings at its Chennai manufacturing plant. In addition, Foxconn has invested $500 million (around ₹4,100 crore) in Hyderabad's new manufacturing facility.

India's own Tata Group acquired the Wistron factory near Bengaluru late last year, and it is reported that the firm has already started iPhone production at the plant. India is projected to assemble up to 25% of the world's iPhones by 2025, an exponential increase from current estimates of 5 to 7 percent.
