Futuremark debunks claims that accuse Apple of downgrading the performance of older iPhones
Futuremark conducted a benchmark test on 1,00,000 iPhones which included older versions of iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 7. The test was conducted across three version of iOS.
A speculation regarding Apple iPhones had managed to cloud the reputation of the world's smartphone manufacturer that has finally been debunked by benchmark company Futuremark. It was falsely believed that Apple intentionally slows down its older iPhones through OTA updates to boost the sale of its latest releases.
Futuremark took the matter in its hands to figure out if the speculation was true or was it just another hoax developed by rivals or most probably the anti-Apple, Android fraternity. In 2016 Futuremark collected 1,00,000 benchmark results of Apple iPhones including seven different models in its quest. The test also included analysis of three version of iOS viz. iOS 9, iOS 10 and iOS 11.
Futuremark used the 3DMark Sling Sand hot Extreme Graphics test and compiled the calculations for an entire month starting with iPhone 5S. The test concluded with a result that the performance for the iPhone 5S was consistent throughout the test. There was hardly a drop in the performance when old and relatively new models of the smartphone were compared.
Similarly, results for other devices, including the iPhone 6, 6s, and 7, show minor drops and increases when it comes to GPU performance. In the iPhone 6 and 7, GPU performance is up compared to previous-generation versions of iOS.
Future mark posted the conclusion of the test on its website which read,"A user would be unlikely to notice this small difference in everyday use." Futuremark claims that there is no chance of a decrease in performance of the iPhone models over time and after regular updates.
