Galaxy S26+ Reportedly in Development as Samsung Reconsiders Phasing Out ‘Plus’ Variant

Samsung might be reconsidering its decision to phase out the "Plus" variant in its Galaxy S series. Initially, reports suggested that the company would replace the "Plus" model with an "Edge" version starting with the Galaxy S26 lineup.

However, new information indicates that Samsung has resumed development of a phone codenamed "M Plus," which is believed to be the Galaxy S26+. Here's what the new report suggests:

Samsung Galaxy S26 Plus Model Reportedly in Works

In the first half of this year, Samsung had planned to release three models for the Galaxy S26 series: M1 (standard), M2 (edge), and M3 (ultra). The addition of the M Plus project suggests that there could now be up to four models in the S26 lineup. This change comes after lower-than-expected sales of the Galaxy S25 Edge.

Production Forecasts and Market Strategy

According to production forecasts shared by Samsung Electronics with its component suppliers last month, the planned production volume for the Galaxy S25 Edge from September to December was in the early 300,000s. This figure was lower than that of the Plus model from earlier this year, which had a planned production volume in the early 500,000s during the same period.

Future Lineup Considerations

An insider from the component industry mentioned that Samsung Electronics recently added the M Plus development project due to disappointing sales figures for the Galaxy S25 Edge. The ongoing development of M1, M2, and M3 projects means that consumers might see four different models when the S26 series is launched.

It remains uncertain whether Samsung will continue offering both Edge and Plus models or if this move signifies a complete return to their previous strategy. The company's final decision on this matter will likely depend on market trends and consumer preferences as they continue developing their flagship devices.

The potential inclusion of an additional model in Samsung's lineup reflects their adaptability in response to market demands. By reintroducing a popular variant like the Plus model, they aim to cater better to diverse consumer needs while maintaining competitiveness within their flagship series offerings.
