Galaxy Z Flip5 Survives 400,000 Folds; Surpasses Samsung's Official Claims

YouTube channel Mrkeybrd embarked on a mission, calling it the Great Folding Test Vol. II, several days ago. It was a multi-day livestream, where he tested out folding the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra.

The folding phone that stood the rigorous challenge was the Galaxy Z Flip5, which managed to survive 401,156 folds. Despite some issues during the journey, it was the last phone standing.

Galaxy Z Flip5 Exceeds Samsung’s Fold Test With 400,000 Folds

Galaxy Z Flip5 Beats Razr 40 Ultra in Fold Test

Samsung officially advertises only 200,000 folds, which the company verifies using machines. To put things in perspective, the company explains that 200,000 folds is 100 folds a day for 5 years.

However, the Youtuber explains that human beings and robots really cannot be compared, as robots neatly fold the phone in the same angle, same force and with precision while humans can never achieve the same neat folding technique every time. Hence, this feat becomes remarkable, as it's several folds higher than what the company advertises.

There were a few challenges during the journey. Around the halfway point, at 223,000 folds, the hinge started struggling to hold at partial angles. Nonetheless, the phone continued to function smoothly until reaching the 400,000 mark.

Moto Razr 40 Ultra Fails Much Earlier

In comparison to the Galaxy Z Flip5, the Moto Razr 40 Ultra failed much earlier - it died at just 126,266 cycles.

It also suffered more snags along the way. Problems began arising at approximately the 44,000 fold mark. This is a good point to note, considering that Motorola states the Razr hinge is designed for 400,000 folds.

This figure is actually double the figure that Samsung claims, even though it's the Samsung that actually managed to achieve it.

The YouTuber explains further why this may be happening, and highlights that humans tend to "break things faster. He added how to avoid this from happening.
