Last week, we came across a report suggesting that HTC is looking for a buyer. The reason stated was that Taiwanese company was finding it difficult to function properly after failing to generate enough revenues.

The report also mentioned Google and Samsung as potential buyers of HTC. Well, according to fresh information, Google is all set to acquire all or part of HTC. Making this claim is a Taiwanese publication called Commercial Times. What's more, the search giant is apparently in the final stages of acquiring HTC. Interestingly, Google had earlier acquired Motorola Mobility but sold it off after a couple of years.

So it doesn't make much sense that Google is again going down the same road. That being said, there is actually a reason why the company may be interested to buy HTC. As some of you may know, HTC manufacturers the Google Pixel devices. Well, presumably after acquiring HTC, Google could keep a better eye on the company.

The publication claims HTC's poor financial condition along with Google's willingness to "perfect [the] integration of software, content, hardware, network, cloud, [and] AI," is the main reason behind this.

The publication further states, Google is planning for a "strategic investment", and could only buy HTC Mobile's R&D team. Even last week's report had said that HTC may sell its VR division to a separate business.

Talking about HTC, once it used to be a top player in the smartphone market. However, other giants like Samsung, Apple, Huawei went ahead in the competition. Besides this, the addition of new smartphone manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo has also proven fatal for the Taiwanese company.

As yet, neither Google nor HTC has confirmed the accuracy of the report.
