Google Pixel 9 Pro & Pro XL Launched: AI-Powered Cameras With Tensor G4, Super Actua Display, & More
Google has officially launched its latest flagship smartphones, the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL, marking the first time in the Pixel lineup that the Pro models are available in two sizes.
These devices, unveiled at the recent Made By Google event, bring significant upgrades in design, performance, and camera capabilities.
Design and Display
The Pixel 9 Pro features a 6.3-inch Super Actua OLED display, while the larger Pixel 9 Pro XL comes with a 6.8-inch Super Actua OLED display. Both displays support a 120Hz refresh rate and offer peak brightness levels of up to 3,000 nits, ensuring vibrant visuals even in bright sunlight. The screens are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, enhancing durability against drops and scratches.

The design of the Pixel 9 Pro series has been refined, featuring flat side rails and a matte finish available in four color options: Obsidian, Porcelain, Hazel, and Rose Quartz. The iconic camera bar on the rear has been updated to house the advanced triple camera setup.
Performance and Battery Life
Under the hood, both the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL are powered by Google's new Tensor G4 processor, paired with 16GB of RAM and storage options ranging from 128GB to 1TB. This chipset supports the new Gemini Nano with Multimodality, enabling the phones to process text, images, and audio locally for a more responsive and private AI experience.

The battery life has been optimized as well. The Pixel 9 Pro is equipped with a 4,700mAh battery, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL houses a larger 5,060mAh battery. Both models support 45W fast charging, allowing users to charge from 0 to 70% in just 30 minutes.
Camera Capabilities
Photography and videography are at the core of the Pixel 9 Pro series. Both the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL feature a triple camera system consisting of a 50MP main sensor, a 48MP ultra-wide lens, and a 48MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. The telephoto lens also supports up to 30x Super Res Zoom, enabling detailed shots from a distance.
On the front, the devices boast a 42MP punch-hole selfie camera with a 103-degree field of view, a significant upgrade from previous models. Video enthusiasts will appreciate the ability to record in 8K at 30fps, with additional features like Video Boost, Night Sight Video, and Super Res Zoom for video.
AI Features and Software
The Pixel 9 Pro series introduces several new AI-driven features under the "Google AI" umbrella. Gemini Live allows for a more conversational experience with Google Assistant, with 10 new voices to choose from for hands-free commands. The Pixel Studio app, exclusive to this series, uses Imagen3 technology for text-to-image creation and editing.
Other notable AI features include Clear Calling for improved call quality, Call Notes for automatic transcription of phone conversations, and Pixel Screenshots, which extracts contextual information from saved screenshots. Additionally, the new Pixel Weather app, powered by AI, offers more accurate weather forecasts and personalized reports.
Both devices come with Android 14 pre-installed and are guaranteed to receive seven years of OS updates, security patches, and Pixel Drops.
