Google Pixelbook 2-in-1 notebook with Pixelbook Pen launched starting from $999
Google Pixelbook is now official.
Google has finally announced the launch of the two Pixel 2 smartphones and other products. One of the devices that were unveiled is the Pixelbook laptop that was circulating in the rumors and leaks of late. We even saw the details of the Pixelbook appear in a retailer's inventory listing earlier this week.
The Pixelbook is claimed to be the thinnest and lightest laptop to be launched by Google till date. We say so as the laptop weighs in at 1.1kg and measures 10.33mm in thickness. This new Google laptop can be turned into a tablet as it has rotatable hinges to spin it around 360 degrees. The 2-in-1 laptop from Google is integrated with AI software and hardware that makes the device capable of AI deep learning capability. Also, the laptop has the Google Assistant and can be accessed using the voice command "Ok Google" or pressing the dedicated Assistant key.
Design and Display
The Pixelbook features an aluminum unibody design at the top and rotatable hinges as mentioned above. The device features a backlit keyboard that will illuminate in low light. The convertible device from Google boasts of a 12.3-inch Quad HD LCD display with a pixel density of 235 pixels per inch.
Hardware and Battery
The Google Pixelbook comes in three variants with different processors, RAM and storage capacities. The base variant features an Intel Kaby Lake Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM and 128GB storage space. There is another variant with the same processor and RAM and 256GB storage capacity. The top-end variant is equipped with an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM and 512GB storage capacity.
Google touts that the Pixelbook has a durable battery that can last up to 10 hours of continuous usage. Also, the battery comes with fast charging support giving it 2 hours and 15 minutes of backup quickly.
Google Assistant
As mentioned above, there is Google Assistant and the same can be accessed either via the voice command or the dedicated key. The Assistant lets users set a reminder, find an email, and do other things on the notebook. The Pixelbook can smartly connect to the phone's mobile data automatically when there is no Wi-Fi network.
Pixelbook Pen
The Pixelbook Pen is an accessory that is meant to work with the Pixelbook's display. The $99 Pixelbook Pen was developed in partnership with Japanese tablet maker Wacom. The stylus has a latency of 10 ms and 60 degrees of angular awareness and over 2,000 pressure sensitivity. You can use it for tasks such as circling an image or text to look up for a word or find the details about a picture.
Price and Availability
The Pixelbook and Pixelbook Pen with be released initially in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada. For the pricing, the device starts at $999 for the base variant with Kaby Lake processor with 128GB storage and $1,199 for the 256GB variant. The high-end variant with Core i7 processor is priced at $1,699. The pre-orders of all the three variants has already debuted and the device will start shipping on October 31.
