Google and Qualcomm join forces to swiftly commercialize Android P
Google has started rolling out its latest Android P beta for some smartphones. Meanwhile, Qualcomm has announced that it will start working with Google to bring the Android P to selected Snapdragons.
Starting today Google has started rolling out its latest Android P beta for some smartphones. Meanwhile, chipset maker Qualcomm has announced that it will start working with Google to bring the next-generation Android P on some selected Snapdragon mobile platforms. It will optimize the OS on Snapdragon 845, 660 and 636 Mobile platforms to make sure that the Android P upgrade will be available at the time of launch.
"We are excited to work with Google to pre-integrate our software with Android P, making it production ready for OEMs," said Mike Genewich, director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. "Through our strengthened relationship, Google and Qualcomm Technologies are set to expand the market for Android and make it easier for OEMs to launch devices based on Snapdragon mobile platforms," reads Qualcomm's blog post.
Qualcomm is in a position of the mobile world where it gives a unique advantage. It assists Google to improve the speed of its OS upgrade cycle. It also assists OEMs to bring the latest software enhancements to consumers more rapidly than previous Android OS releases. It has brought some interesting features such as multi-camera support, display cutout support, indoor navigation, HDR, among others.
OEMs like Xiaomi, vivo, Sony Mobile, OPPO, and OnePlus are already a part of the developer preview of Android P. The public beta is already available on smartphones with selected mobile platform processors. It's been expected that the Google Android P will be available to consumers by the end of this year.
"Project Treble is the new hardware interface architecture for Android that is designed to make platform updates easier for device manufacturers," said Dave Burke, vice president of engineering, Google in a blog post.
He added, "We're excited to work closely with Qualcomm Technologies on a streamlined implementation of Android P for Snapdragon silicon, so device manufacturers can bring the latest Android innovations to developers and consumers more quickly."
According to Qualcomm, this joint effort aims to expand global availability, as well as accelerate the availability of key new enhancements to consumers. Let's see how well both the companies will work to deliver the new update as soon as possible.
