Google’s Upcoming Pixel 8A Gets Revealed in CAD-Based Renders

In the wake of Google's recent launch of its Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones, the tech giant has another ace up its sleeve - the affordable Pixel 8a. Leaked CAD-based renders have shed light on the design and specs of this eagerly awaited mid-range device. Here's what we know so far.

Design and Dimensions

According to renders leaked by OnLeaks (via Smartprix), the Pixel 8a has a rear visor similar to the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro. The rear visor, which houses two cameras and an LED flash module, echoes the design of its more expensive counterparts.

The device's visor is distinct from the side frame, where you'll find the power button, volume rocker, SIM tray, and cellular antenna markings. The top side sports an antenna line, a mic hole, and an ultrawide-band antenna marking. Meanwhile, the bottom side houses a USB-C port and a speaker grille.

In terms of dimensions, the Pixel 8a measures 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.9mm, indicating a slightly smaller form factor compared to its predecessor, the Pixel 7a.

Display and Hardware

The Pixel 8a is expected to boast a 6.1-inch display, making it marginally smaller than the Pixel 8's 6.2-inch panel. The device's bezels, especially the chin, are more pronounced compared to its higher-end counterparts. The display features a hole-punch cutout for the front-facing camera.

Under the hood, the Pixel 8a is rumored to be powered by an underclocked version of Google's Tensor G3 chipset, with a maximum frequency of 2.91GHz. While this iteration of the Tensor chip may offer slightly reduced performance compared to its Pixel 8 counterparts, it's still expected to deliver a smooth and responsive user experience. The device is expected to feature 8GB of RAM and will run Android 14 out of the box.

In terms of graphics, the Pixel 8a could come equipped with a Mali-G715 GPU. Additionally, users can expect the inclusion of the Titan G2 security chip and various AI enhancements, further enhancing the device's capabilities.
