Honor 7X now receiving Android Oreo Beta with EMUI 8.0

Every user in the Honor 7X beta program should get the update by the end of this week.

Honor 7X was first launched in China in October last year, and the phone made its way to the Indian market in December. Priced at Rs. 12,999 (32GB), the smartphone was selling like hot cakes due to its impressive specifications and features. On the software front, the 7X runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with EMUI 5.1. The good news is that Honor has started rolling out Android Oreo beta update for the smartphone.

Honor 7X users who are enrolled in the beta program are expected to receive the Android Oreo update with EMUI 8.0. Honor recently announced a beta program for the 7X owners in a few countries including India, Germany, Italy, France and the US. As reported by XDA Developers, the company has now started sending emails to participants in the Friendly User Test (FUT-Honor's beta program) telling them about the Oreo update.

As per the email, every user in the beta program should get the update by the end of this week. What about those who are in the beta test? Well, Honor says the Android Oreo stable update for 7X will be rolled out sometime in Q2 2018.

Android Oreo will bring a slew of features to the Honor 7X. The features include Picture-in-Picture mode, Notification Dots, Android Instant Apps, Notification channel, and more. Further, EMUI 8.0 will add features like a floating navigation dock and smarter notifications.

XDA Developers also reports that the Android Oreo beta update for Honor 7X is Project Treble certified. This means users will be able to flash an AOSP Generic System Image (GSI) without needing any modifications to the kernel.

To recall on the specifications, the 7X sports a 5.93-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display with 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, it is equipped with an octa-core Hi-Silicon Kirin 659 processor clubbed with 4GB RAM.

The smartphone comes in two; one with 32GB storage and the other with 64GB storage. There is a hybrid dual SIM slot that supports up to 256GB of expandable storage too. The battery capacity of the smartphone is 3340mAh. The connectivity aspects of the smartphone are standard, including 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and dual SIM support.

The 7X flaunts a dual rear camera setup with a 16MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor. There is also an 8MP selfie camera at the front.
