Honor 8 Lite receives Android Oreo beta along with Project Treble support
After installing the beta Android Oreo update, Huawei P8 Lite 2017/Honor 8 Lite users can choose to use the EMUI 8.0.
Lately, we have seen several Huawei and Honor smartphones getting updated with Project Treble support, Huawei Mate 9, P10 and P10 Plus, Honor 8 Pro, Honor 7X; the list is quite long. Now, another smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer has received the Project Treble support, reports XDA Developers.
Huawei P8 Lite 2017 (aka Honor 8 Lite) is the device in question. According to XDA Developers, users of the P8 Lite 2017 PRA will have to rebrand their device to Honor 8 Lite AL00C/AL00X/TL10C B220. After they will be able to install the beta Chinese Android Oreo-based EMUI 8 update for the Honor 8 Lite, which brings along Project Treble support.
You can find the instructions to install the beta update here. After installing the beta Android Oreo update, Huawei P8 Lite 2017/Honor 8 Lite users can choose to use the EMUI 8.0.
"They can install the Play Store in EMUI by downloading and flashing the Android Oreo TWRP, installing the GMScore.apk (which will lead to the device automatically rebooting), and then installing the Play Store and Google Service APKs," reads the report.
Users can also flash a Generic System Image (GSI) of Android Oreo. They can flash an AOSP GSI such as Phh-Treble by XDA Recognized Developer phhusson. You can find the instructions here.
For those who are unaware, the Huawei P8 Lite 2017 is marketed as Honor 8 Lite in some markets. The smartphone arrives with a 5.2-inch Full HD 1080p display with a 2.5D curved glass on top for added protection. Under the hood, it makes use of an octa-core Kirin 655 in-house processor which is coupled with a Mali T830-MP2 graphics unit.
The Honor 8 Lite offers 4GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage space; further expandable up to 128GB using a microSD card. The device has the Hybrid dual SIM feature that can support both nano SIM cards.
In terms of optics, the smartphone is equipped with a 12MP rear snapper with LED flash and BSI CMOS sensor. Up front, there is an 8MP selfie snapper with a 77-degree wide-angle lens. The Honor 8 Lite packs a 3,000mAh battery to keep the lights on.
