Huawei's sub-brand Honor has now started rolling out Android 8.0 Oreo update for two of its smartphones. Honor 8 Pro and Honor 9 are now receiving the update in the U.K. and in India apparently. Few Honor 8 Pro users in India have also reported that their devices have got the update. However, Honor has not officially said anything about India nor it has revealed when the update will be hitting other markets. We are following up on this.
In the meantime, the new update is about 2.8GB in size and it brings Huawei's latest customized system EMUI 8.0 along with all the goodness of Android 8.0. Honor 8 Pro and Honor 9 users will get to experience new features and performance improvements with their devices.
As such, the latest EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 integrates some AI elements and comes with a lot of new features like voice assistant, intelligent split screen, Intelligent Resource Allocation, dynamic wallpaper, navigation bar customization along with quick file sharing capabilities and many more.
It will also bring Oreo features like picture-in-picture, Smart Text Selection, Notification Dots, Android Instant Apps, Google Play Protect improved booting time, extended battery life and more.
Honor 8 Pro and Honor 9 owners should receive a notification of the update. If not, then, they can always check for the update manually by going to the Setting page and then clicking on About phone tab and check for updates there. If the device has got the update it will show.
Notably, this is a firmware update so it is advised to back up all the date before installing the new OS. Users should have at least 50 percent battery or more and they should carry out the installation process over a Wi-Fi network. Using mobile network may cost additional data charges. It is important to remember these things during the time of installation of any major software update.
If you own any of the devices and have got the update, do let us know in the comments what are other noticeable changes that you have come across.
Meanwhile, Honor has also earlier announced and officially confirmed that nine of its smartphone would be upgraded to the company's latest EMUI 8.0 firmware. However, for some devices, EMUI 8.0 will not necessarily bring Android 8.0 Oreo. Some may only get only the customized skin with the new update the company has said. In any case, the smartphones that are confirmed to get the latest EMUI update include Honor 7X, Honor 8, Honor V8, Honor Note 8, Honor 8 Lite, Honor 9, Honor 9 Lite, Honor V9, and Honor V10.
