HONOR Magic V5 Foldable Launch Set for July 12: Here’s What to Expect

HONOR is ready to debut its next-generation foldable smartphone, the Magic V5, on July 12 in China, with the company calling it its most advanced AI-powered foldable yet.

Announced by CEO James Li during MWC Shanghai 2025, the Magic V5 promises to push boundaries in thinness, AI integration, and high-end performance.

Aiming for the Thinnest Foldable Title

The Magic V5 follows in the footsteps of the Magic V3, which measured just 4.35mm when unfolded. While official specs haven’t revealed whether the V5 will undercut that record, it’s clear HONOR is targeting ultra-portability.

Powered by Snapdragon’s 8 Elite Chip

Inside, the Magic V5 is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Leading Edition—a boosted version of Qualcomm’s top-tier chip with clock speeds up to 4.47GHz. Paired with a 7.95-inch 2K+ LTPO foldable inner screen and a 6.45-inch outer OLED panel (both likely running at 120Hz), the phone is shaping up as a productivity-first device. HONOR claims the device offers “PC-level productivity,” powered by on-device AI.

Big Battery in a Slim Body

Despite its thin design, the phone is rumored to carry a silicon-carbon battery rated between 5950mAh and 6100mAh, with 66W fast charging. That’s a notable bump over last year’s model and could address a major complaint about battery life in foldables.

Cameras and AI Features

Camera specs are still unofficial, but leaks suggest a 50MP main sensor with OIS, an ultrawide, and a 200MP periscope telephoto—potentially making the V5 one of the most camera-capable foldables at launch.

Additional features may include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, Beidou satellite messaging, and new AI-powered tools tied to HONOR’s ecosystem.

First China, Then Global?

The launch is currently limited to China, but a global rollout could follow later this year. Positioned to challenge the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, the Magic V5 could be a key player in the evolving foldable landscape.
