HTC 10 now gets Android Oreo update
This is not the only HTC smartphone to taste the Oreo, the HTC U11 also received the Android Oreo treatment in November last year.
HTC released the Android Oreo update for its U11 smartphone in November last year. Now another HTC device has started to received the much-awaited Oreo update. The update is currently being rolled out in phases via OTA (over the air) to the unlocked units of HTC 10. The Taiwanese phone maker had promised to upgrade its 2016 flagship to Android Oreo in August last year. First spotted by Android Police, the Oreo update for the HTC 10 carries the build number 3.16.617.2.
The update brings in all the unique features of Android 8.0 Oreo such as Notification Dots, Smart Autofill, Picture in Picture mode, redesigned Quick Settings menu to name a few. Android Oreo will also make some security and stability improvements to the device, proving users with a better overall user experience. Other than that, the update is expected to include the latest Android security patch as well.
In a few days time, the update should reach all the units of the HTC 10. If you own this smartphone, you can check for the update manually by heading to the phone's Settings > About > Software updates. There is another way, using which you can install the data. You have to go to HTC's official site and download RUU package for the update. Sized at 1.8GB, downloading the RUU will wipe away all the data on your device. Hence, to prevent data loss, you should better back up the data locally before starting with the installation process.
As stated, the HTC 10 was launched back in April 2016 with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It received the Android 7.0 Nougat update in February last year. To recap on the specs, the smartphone has a 5.2-inch QHD display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on top. As for the processor, the device makes use of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor teamed up with 4GB RAM and either 32GB or 6GB default storage space.
In the camera department, the HTC 10 bears a 12MP primary camera with dual LED flash and a 5MP selfie camera enabled with autofocus and OIS. A standard 3,000mAh non-removable battery runs the entire package and it also features a front-mounted fingerprint scanner.
