HTC oversells the U11, gets banned on advertising by the ASA

HTC misrepresent the U11 capabilities, gets banned by ASA.

HTC has been banned by the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) from showing an HTC 11 advertisement, that shows Olympic athlete Tom Daley using the smartphone. In the ad, the athlete is shown taking selfies while diving in a swimming pool. According to ASA, an average person is "unlikely to be able to prevent their phone sinking below 1M" - the depth that the U11 can withstand (IP67 certified), reports BBC.

Besides, the HTC U11's user guidelines clearly mention that the device shouldn't "be exposed to non-fresh water." The report also says that the ASA judged the ad to have "exaggerated the phone's capabilities in a misleading manner" and it should be removed from all the platforms. The video has now been pulled off from the company's YouTube channel, but the folks at Android Authority managed to get their hands on a copy of the video.

The ASA also recently put a ban on the OnePlus 'Lake Blood' advert due to its violent content. OnePlus previous tapped Emily Ratajkowski to describe the advantages of its OnePlus 5 camera, asked online celebrity Arron Crascall to perform an unboxing video in a Lamborghini, and now took the notch too far with 'Lake Blood' ad.

It's a play on horror films such as Texa Chainsaw Massacre, and also highlights one of the phone's standout camera features in a functional way. Although, the ad raised more questions from the fans about OnePlus' strategy.

The company also stated: "We will only spend money on marketing when it really, truly adds value for our fans."

Speaking of marketing, OnePlus is also teased a new video shows intercuts between the OnePlus and Avengers logo, and also reveals the date of the upcoming Avengers movie. By the looks, it seems this was a test video that was posted on facebook by mistake. But this also gives us a good peek into what the company is planning for its upcoming flagship.

The Avengers: Infinity War is due for an April 27 release, which is possibly the same time when OnePlus will launch its flagship. IT's still unclear whether the device will make it to the Indian market, but since the Star Wars edition was available for the Indian consumers, the Avengers themed-device might also hit the subcontinent shores.
