HTC U12+ could be globally released late next month, suggests a new report. This aligns with previous rumors that claimed that HTC would launch its next flagship sometime in May. While the company itself has made no announcements regarding this, the rumor mill has been quite active with the U12+ over the past two months.

HTC U12+ launch expected in mid-May; Key specifications

According to the new report (via), the HTC U12+ will be launched in select markets towards the end of May or the beginning of June. If the report is legit, the smartphone could get unveiled in mid-May. Last year, HTC had announced the U11 in May, whereas a Plus variant was introduced six months later. However, the company is believed to launch only the Plus smartphone this time.

HTC has probably taken this decision to justify the smartphone's high price tag and avoid competition with the likes of Samsung, Xiaomi and Oppo. It is no secret that the Taiwanese manufacturer has been struggling for a while to keep up with its rivals.

In terms of specifications, the HTC U12+ is likely to come with a large 6-inch LCD display with WQHD+ resolution. Under the hood, the smartphone is said to be driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, clubbed with 6GB of RAM and 256GB of inbuilt storage.

On the photography front, the U12+ is said to feature four cameras. If recent reports are to be believed, the rear dual camera setup will comprise of a 16MP sensor and a 12MP sensor. The image sensors will be accompanied by a LED flash module. Whereas the front dual camera setup will be a combination of two 8MP sensors.

In addition to all these, the U12+ will run Android Oreo OS right of the box, and it will draw power from a 3,420mAh battery. The smartphone will be I68 certified for water and dust resistance.

The device is further expected to have the Edge Sense feature, which will enable users to launch apps, take pictures, text on the go as it triggers the 'Ok Google' mode, and do a lot more, just by simply squeezing the phone's edges.
