Huawei has unveiled the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design in China, pushing the boundaries of foldable smartphone technology with a massive 10.2-inch tri-fold display. The successor to Huawei's earlier tri-fold device can transform from a compact smartphone into a tablet-sized screen and packs flagship hardware, satellite connectivity and an advanced camera system.

The Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design is positioned firmly in the ultra-premium segment, with prices starting at 19,999 yuan (roughly Rs. 2.81 lakh).

Huawei Mate XT 2 Gets a 10.2-Inch Tri-Fold Display

The biggest highlight of the Mate XT 2 Ultimate is its G-shaped tri-fold design, allowing users to switch between single-screen, dual-screen and full tablet modes. When folded, it offers a 6.5-inch OLED display, while the fully unfolded device features a 10.2-inch flexible OLED panel.

The inner display offers a 2232 x 3184 pixel resolution, a 1Hz to 90Hz LTPO refresh rate and 1440Hz PWM dimming. Meanwhile, the outer screen supports a 120Hz LTPO refresh rate and up to 6,500 nits of peak brightness.

Huawei says the phone measures 12.3mm when folded and just 3.5mm at its thinnest point when opened. Despite its complex design, the device weighs 299g. It also gets IP58 and IP59 ratings for dust and water resistance.

Kirin 9050 Pro Powers the Tri-Fold Flagship

Under the hood, the Mate XT 2 Ultimate is powered by Huawei's Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, paired with 16GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage. Huawei claims significant CPU performance improvements over the previous generation.

The phone runs HarmonyOS 7, which is optimised for the larger display with support for three apps running side by side, split-screen multitasking and desktop-class PC applications.

Huawei has also included a graphene vapour chamber cooling system and an upgraded GPU with support for advanced graphics features, including real-time ray tracing.

50MP Cameras, Satellite Features and Privacy Screen

The Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate features a 50MP RYYB main camera with OIS and a variable aperture, alongside a 40MP ultra-wide lens and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera offering 3.5x optical zoom.

Connectivity options include 5G, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11ax, Bluetooth 6.0, USB Type-C and satellite communication features. The phone supports Tiantong satellite calls and two-way BeiDou satellite messaging.

Huawei is also offering a special privacy screen edition featuring hardware-level technology designed to reduce visibility from side angles. The Mate XT 2 Ultimate packs a 5,600mAh battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging. It also supports the M-Pen 3 stylus.

Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design prices go up to 29,999 yuan for the top-end Special Edition. The phone goes on sale in China from September 7, while India availability is yet to be announced.
