Huawei P20 Pro camera beats Galaxy S9 Plus, Pixel 2; scores 109 on DxOMark
Huawei moves ahead of Google, Samsung and Apple.
Huawei has unveiled the P20 and P20 Pro at an event in Paris. And as tipped earlier, the P20 Pro features not one, not two, but three camera modules, which is also touted as one of the best alternatives to professional cameras.
DxOMark ratings
To back up these claims, image quality reference site DxOMark has given the latest flagship the top spot among the current smartphones. The device scored a tremendous 109 rating for its camera.
Huawei P20 Pro's smaller sibling - the P20 secured the second place on DxOMark with a 102 rating. These two smartphones are followed by the Samsung Galaxy S9, Google Pixel 2, and the iPhone X.
How credible?
Though DxOMark's process is very robust, they are by no means unbiased. There is a possibility of companies paying DxOMark to analyze their camera module and suggest various tweaks enabling the device to score higher on the test.
This doesn't mean that Huawei P20 Pro's camera isn't good. The sample images show how well exposed the images are on the new flagship.
Apart from that, the P20 Pro also scores the highest rating (98) for its video quality. Previously, Google Pixel 2 scored an impressive 96 for the video quality. It is followed by P20 at 94, Galaxy S9 Plus at 91, and the iPhone X at 89.
Under the hood
Talking of the specifications, both the new flagships run EMUI 8.1 wrapped under Android 8.1 Oreo. They are powered by an octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC alongside a neural processing unit that provides an AI integration and offers 60 percent better response time.
The Huawei P20 Pro sports a 6.1-inch full-HD+ OLED FullView display with 1080x2240 pixel resolution. It is said to feature a 'natural tone display' that is said to offer comfortable viewing experience to the users.
The P20 has 4GB of RAM, while the Pro variant brings 6GB of RAM. Both devices have 128GB of inbuilt storage. Besides, the smartphones feature a 360-degree Face Unlock feature that claims to unlock the device within 0.6 seconds. The P20 is backed by a 3400mAh battery, while the Pro variant is juiced by a 4000mAh battery. Both batteries support company's SuperCharge fast charging that claims to provide 58 percent in 30 minutes.
