New Camera King: Huawei Pura 80 Ultra Takes No. 1 Spot in DxOMark Rankings, Surpasses Oppo Find X8 Ultra
Huawei has taken back the top spot in DxOMark’s camera rankings. Its latest flagship, the Pura 80 Ultra, scored 175 points — the highest ever recorded by the benchmark — surpassing Oppo’s Find X8 Ultra, which held the crown since June with 169 points.
The Pura 80 Ultra earned praise for its main camera, bokeh, and telephoto performance. According to DxOMark, the phone delivers exceptional detail in both photos and videos across a wide range of conditions, even if it occasionally shows slight overexposure or minor color inconsistencies.

How It Beat Oppo’s Flagship
Oppo’s Find X8 Ultra was celebrated for its well-balanced results earlier this year, but Huawei managed to push ahead with improvements in key areas. DxOMark’s breakdown highlights the Pura 80 Ultra’s:
- 180 points in photos — driven by crisp detail, natural skin tones, and a wide dynamic range.
- 166 points in video — with smooth autofocus, controlled noise, and consistent results in most environments.
- Standout performance for portraits, where it was rated the best among tested smartphones.

While Oppo’s flagship remains among the best, Huawei’s tweaks in optical zoom and low-light handling appear to have tipped the scales in its favor.
The Hardware Behind the Score
The Pura 80 Ultra uses Huawei’s in-house XMAGE imaging system. The main camera is a 50MP 1-inch sensor with a variable aperture ranging from f/1.6 to f/4. It’s paired with:
- 40MP ultra-wide lens
- 1.5MP spectrum sensor
- Dual periscope telephoto setup: 50MP and 12.5MP lenses offering 3.7x and 9.4x optical zoom (83mm and 212mm focal lengths)
This combination gives the phone notable versatility, whether it’s capturing close-up portraits or long-range detail shots.
Why It Matters
For Huawei, this result is significant. Despite ongoing restrictions in global markets, it continues to produce hardware that competes — and now leads — in a critical smartphone category. For consumers, it’s another reminder that the best camera phone isn’t limited to brands with the largest global presence.
