Huawei Unveils Pura 70 Series - Pura 70 Ultra Features a Rotating Telescopic Lens

Chinese tech giant Huawei has launched a new line of flagship phones in China called the Pura 70 series. The series focuses on mobile photography and boasts several impressive features.

New Kirin Chipset Powers Pro and Ultra Models The Pura 70 Ultra and Pro+ are powered by Huawei's latest Kirin 9010 chipset, an upgrade over the Kirin 9000s found in the Mate 60 series. This processor features two high-performance cores clocked at 2.30 GHz, six mid-range cores at 2.18 GHz, and four efficiency cores at 1.55 GHz. Both models also sport the Mali-G710 GPU for graphics processing.

Behold the Phone With a Moving Lens! Huawei Debuts the Pura 70 Series

Huawei Pura 70 Ultra: A Camera Phone With a Twist The highlight of the Pura 70 series is the camera system, particularly on the Ultra model. It boasts a massive one-inch, 50-megapixel main sensor, the largest sensor size available in a smartphone currently. This sensor is accompanied by a unique feature: a mechanically rotating telescopic lens.

This innovative lens system can physically extend and retract to achieve high zoom capabilities without compromising image quality. Huawei claims the mechanism can withstand at least 300,000 expansions and contractions and can capture clear images even at high speeds. The main camera also offers a variable aperture that can adjust between f/1.6 and f/4.0 to suit various lighting conditions. Additionally, it has sensor-shift image stabilization for sharper photos and videos.

The Ultra model is further complemented by a 40-megapixel ultra-wide sensor and a 50-megapixel telephoto macro lens with optical image stabilization.

Pura 70 Pro+ Offers High-End Camera Without Telescopic Lens The Pura 70 Pro+ shares the same main camera with variable aperture and OIS as the Ultra model, but it lacks the innovative telescopic lens. It has a traditional 12.5-megapixel ultra-wide sensor and a 48-megapixel telephoto macro lens. Both the Ultra and Pro+ models come with a 13-megapixel front-facing camera.

Large Display, Powerful Battery, and Fast Charging The Pura 70 Pro+ and Ultra models boast a large 6.8-inch OLED display with LTPO technology. This allows for a smooth 1Hz to 120Hz refresh rate that can adjust dynamically based on content to conserve battery life. The displays also feature high-frequency Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) dimming to reduce eye strain. Both phones have an in-screen fingerprint sensor and are protected by Huawei's second-generation Kunlun glass for improved scratch resistance.

The Pro+ model packs a 5,050mAh battery, while the Ultra variant has a slightly larger 5,200mAh battery. Both phones support incredibly fast 100W wired charging and 80W wireless charging. Additionally, they offer 20W reverse wireless charging, allowing users to wirelessly charge other devices.

Software, Connectivity, and Durability The Pura 70 Pro+ and Ultra run on Huawei's HarmonyOS 4.2 operating system and offer standard features like dual SIM support, 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and an IR blaster. They also boast satellite calling capabilities for emergencies in remote locations. Both phones are water and dust resistant with an IP68 rating.

Pricing and Availability The Huawei Pura 70 series is currently only available for purchase in China. The Pura 70 Ultra starts at 9,999 Yuan (~$1,380) for the 16GB+512GB variant and goes up to 10,999 Yuan (~$1,520) for the 16GB+1TB model. The Pura 70 Pro+ starts at 7,999 Yuan (~$1,105) for the 16GB+512GB option and reaches 8,999 Yuan (~$1,245) for the 16GB+1TB variant.
