Smartphone Market Share Insights

Vivo has clinched the title of the top-selling phone brand in India during Q1 2024, capturing a market share of 19%. This surge is attributed to Vivo's emphasis on 5G technology and innovative camera features in the mid-range and premium segments.

Noteworthy is Vivo's array of affordable 5G smartphones priced under Rs 15,000 and the growing popularity of its V-Series in the Rs 25,000 bracket. Xiaomi follows closely, holding 18.8% of the market share. After overcoming a period of slow growth, Xiaomi has regained momentum, thanks to its diverse product lineup.

Samsung, securing the third position, boasts a wide range of products from affordable to high-end flagship models. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, known for its advanced camera capabilities and generative AI features, stands out as the most sought-after Android flagship currently.

Emerging Brands and Valuation Rankings

Oppo and Realme continue to hold their ground in the fourth and fifth ranks, respectively. While Oppo has seen a slight dip in market share, Realme is attracting the younger demographic with its focus on design and superior camera technology, highlighted by the introduction of a periscope lens in the Realme 12 Pro+ priced under Rs 30,000.

In the valuation hierarchy, Samsung and Apple dominate as the most esteemed smartphone brands in India, followed by Vivo and Xiaomi. The market also acknowledges the growth of Motorola, Nothing, and Transsion (Infinix and Tecno), with Nothing being recognized as the fastest-growing brand.

The mid-range Nothing Phone (2a), Motorola's G-Series, and the attractively priced premium specifications from Infinix and Tecno have contributed to their success. Despite the achievements of Motorola, Nothing, and the Transsion Group, their sales figures are yet to match those of the leading players in India.

Nevertheless, the overall smartphone shipments in the country are anticipated to continue their upward trajectory in 2024. This growth narrative in the Indian smartphone market underscores the evolving consumer preferences towards 5G technology and advanced camera features, along with the increasing inclination towards mid-range priced models offering premium specifications.
