iOS 26.1 Brings Liquid Glass Tweaks, Smarter Gestures, and New Language Support: How to Update
Apple has started rolling out the iOS 26.1 update to compatible iPhones, adding more customization options, smarter controls, and some subtle but useful refinements. The update is now live globally and has reached users in India as well.

A More Personal iPhone Experience
The highlight of iOS 26.1 is a new Liquid Glass setting that lets users fine-tune how transparent their interface looks. You can now choose between a clear mode and a new tinted mode that increases opacity across apps and notifications. It might seem like a small tweak, but for anyone who finds text hard to read over translucent backgrounds, this adds real usability.
Apple also added the option to disable the swipe-to-open Camera shortcut on the Lock Screen — something users have been requesting for years. You’ll find it under Settings > Camera > Lock Screen Swipe to Open Camera. It’s a simple but thoughtful touch for those who often end up with an accidentally opened camera.
Live Translation Expands Beyond English
Apple Intelligence — Apple’s AI layer that quietly powers features like Live Translation — is becoming more global. With iOS 26.1, Live Translation for AirPods now supports additional languages, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Italian, Japanese, and Korean. That’s a meaningful step for users in Asia and Europe, where Apple’s AI features are only just starting to scale.
Updates Across Apps
The Music app is also getting attention this time. The MiniPlayer now supports swipe gestures for skipping tracks, while AutoMix, which blends songs seamlessly, finally works over AirPlay.
For creators and podcasters, there’s a new Local Capture section that gives control over gain levels when recording with external USB microphones — plus an option to decide where the recorded files are stored.
And if you’ve ever fumbled with alarms half-asleep, the new “slide to stop” gesture will make sure you really want to turn it off before hitting snooze again.
Smaller Refinements
iOS 26.1 isn’t just about flashy features. It quietly improves FaceTime audio under weak connections, adds manual workout logging to the Fitness app, and introduces new branding animations for the Apple TV app. There’s also a fresh toggle that automatically installs background security updates, found under Settings > Privacy & Security.
Supported iPhones
The iOS 26.1 update is available for a wide range of devices, starting from the iPhone 11 series and the second-generation iPhone SE, all the way up to the latest iPhone 17 lineup. That includes:
- iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air

- iPhone 14, 13, and 12 series
