iPhone 15 to Support Faster Wireless Charging on non-Magsafe Chargers

The upcoming iPhone 15 will push the bar when it comes to wireless charging. After already introducing wireless MagSafe charging, the Cupertino giant is set to support the latest Qi standard of wireless charging, upping the charging speed on non-Magsafe chargers significantly.

According to a report by ChargerLab citing industry sources, the iPhone 15 base model will support Qi2 wireless charging standards. This indicates that the vanilla iPhone 15 is set to support 15W wireless charging speeds, even on wireless chargers not officially certified by Apple.

You Won't Need a MagSafe Charger For High Speed Wireless Charging

Previously, iPhones could only charge wirelessly at 7.5W on non-Magsafe chargers. The speed was limited under the MFi certification wherein manufacturers of accessories are required to obtain a license from Apple to support its products. However, with the introduction of the Qi2 standard, and Apple adopting it, the upcoming iPhone models will not only support higher charging speeds, but the cost of wireless chargers for iPhones will also come down significantly, as charger makers will not have to obtain the MFi certification from Apple.

iPhone 15 Series Rumors

The iPhone 15 is expected to be launched sometime in September. The iPhone 15 series will include the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models, along with the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. Much ahead of the launch, leaksters have leaked the CAD renders of the iPhone 15 revealing the design. In fact, even the design of the iPhone 16 Pro, set to launch in 2024, has also been leaked.

The upcoming iPhone 15 is set to feature upgraded 48MP cameras. Apple is reportedly working on a triple-stacked sensor for improved images. The base models are also expected to feature the Dynamic Island introduced in the Pro models last year.

The upcoming iPhones are also expected to feature USB-C charging instead of the proprietary Lightning Port. However, the data transfer and charging speeds are expected to differ between the base and pro models.
