iPhone 16 Pro Models Expected to use A18 Pro SoC for Enhanced On-Device AI Performance
With the iPhone 15 series making its debut just seven months ago, the tech world is already buzzing with anticipation for the iPhone 16 series, expected to launch in the latter half of this year.
This forthcoming lineup, poised to include the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, is rumored to bring significant enhancements and a suite of new features.

The iPhone 16 Pro's New Chipset!
At the heart of these upgrades is the introduction of the A18 Pro chipset, primarily designed to boost artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities on the iPhone 16 Pro models.
Apple's decision to incorporate an older A16 chip in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, and an A17 Pro chip in its Pro variants, sets the stage for the A18 Pro's debut as a notable shift towards advanced AI integration.
Apple's A18 Pro SoC: On-Device and Performance
Jeff Pu from Haitong International Tech Research has shed light on the A18 Pro chip's unique features in a recent research note, as covered by 9to5Mac. Key improvements include a larger die area, enabling the chip to house more transistors and specialized components.
This design shift indicates a clear focus on enhancing on-device AI functions, a move that simultaneously introduces challenges such as increased risk of defects and impacts on energy efficiency and heat dissipation.
The development of the A18 Pro chip has reportedly commenced earlier than usual, driven by a growing demand for Apple's latest processors. Performance benchmarks have already surfaced, with the A18 Pro achieving 3,500 points in single-core tests and 8,200 in multi-core tests on Geekbench 6.
In a strategic move, Apple is expected to adopt a dual approach to AI, combining cloud-based features in collaboration with Google and on-device processing. This strategy aims to optimize the performance and versatility of AI functionalities across the iPhone 16 lineup.
New iPad Models Coming Soon
Besides the buzz around the iPhone 16 series, Apple has also hinted at the launch of new iPad models in the coming week, further expanding its ecosystem of devices. In another ambitious project, Apple's roadmap includes the launch of AR glasses three years from now, following the recent unveiling of the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset at the WWDC 2023.
The anticipation for the iPhone 16 series, along with Apple's continuous innovation in processing technology and AI, marks a significant phase in the tech giant's journey. As the launch date approaches, consumers and industry experts eagerly await the official announcement to witness the full extent of these advancements.
