iPhone 17 Air Leak Suggests Apple’s Thinnest iPhone Yet Could Struggle With Battery Life
Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Air, expected to launch this September, could be the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, but a new leak suggests that the slim design may come at the cost of battery performance.
The leak originates from Instant Digital, a well-known source on China's Weibo platform with over 1.4 million followers. The post claims that the iPhone 17 Air will feature a dramatically slim 5.5mm chassis and weigh between 140-150 grams. This would make it even thinner than the already-svelte iPod touch (6.1mm), positioning it as Apple's most radical design shift in years.

iPhone 17 Air Specifications (Leaked)
Alongside its ultra-thin profile, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature a 6.6-inch ProMotion OLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, powered by Apple's next-gen A19 or A19 Pro chipset. The device may also include 12GB of RAM, a titanium-aluminum hybrid frame, and a single 48MP rear camera with advanced AI imaging.
But the most controversial part of the leak is the battery. According to the leak, the iPhone 17 Air may only include a 2,800mAh battery-significantly smaller than those found in the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. This could raise concerns for users who rely heavily on all-day battery life.
A separate report from MacRumors cites internal testing data suggesting that only 60-70% of users would be able to make it through a full day on the iPhone 17 Air without charging, compared to over 80% on other models.
Apple's New Adaptive Power Mode
Apple is reportedly working on a new "Adaptive Power Mode" in iOS 26 to help mitigate battery drain. Additionally, a new MagSafe-compatible battery case might be in development to support the Air's slim profile.
While the iPhone 17 Air appears designed for users who prioritize portability and sleek design, the trade-off in battery life could limit its appeal to power users. More concrete details are expected to surface closer to Apple's September launch event.
