iPhone 17 and 17 Air to Miss Out on ProMotion Display, Tipster Claims

While Apple has so far reserved its ProMotion display technology, featuring an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, for its Pro models, it was initially expected to bring 120Hz screens with ProMotion display technology to all models of the 17 lineup. However, fresh reports suggest that the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will only feature a basic 120Hz refresh rate display without ProMotion technology.

No ProMotion for iPhone 17 and 17 Air

According to Chinese tipster Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will feature just a standard 120Hz screen without support for Apple's ProMotion technology. This means both models will lack adaptive refresh rate capabilities, which dynamically adjust the screen's refresh rate based on content.

iPhone 17 Series: What to Expect?

The iPhone 17 series is expected to go official in September 2025. The iPhone 17 Air is likely to set a new benchmark for Apple's smartphone design by measuring just 5.5mm thick.

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are rumoured to be powered by Apple's next-gen A19 Pro chip. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 17 is expected to feature the A18 chip, and the iPhone 17 Air is likely to come with the standard A19 chip.

For imaging, both the Pro models are expected to boast a 48MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. If this turns out to be true, it would be an upgrade from the 12MP camera found in the iPhone 16 Pro models. Additionally, these new models are expected to include a 24MP front-facing camera.
