iPhone 17 Series Will Ditch Qualcomm and Use Apple’s In-house Wi-Fi Chip: Report

Apple recently unveiled its C1 modem alongside the iPhone 16e. However, another Apple-designed chip is on the horizon, expected to debut with the iPhone 17 series. This new Wi-Fi chip, developed in-house by Apple, is set to be included across the entire iPhone 17 lineup.

Apple's In-House Wi-Fi Chip

Rumours have circulated that Apple's connectivity goals have led to significant internal projects. These include the development of 5G modems like the C1 and its successors. Additionally, Apple has been crafting its own Wi-Fi solution, which is reportedly ready for release with the iPhone 17 models.

iPhone 17 Series Will Feature Apple’s In-house Wi-Fi Chip: Report

Ming-Chi Kuo shared insights on X: "Following Qualcomm, Broadcom's Wi-Fi chips will also be replaced by Apple's in-house chips at a faster pace. My latest industry survey indicates that all new 2H25 iPhone 17 models will feature Apple's in-house Wi-Fi chips (vs. only the slim iPhone 17 will adopt Apple's C1 modem chip). Beyond cost reduction, the switch to in-house Wi-Fi chips will enhance connectivity across Apple devices."

Previously, it was uncertain which iPhone 17 models would feature this new Wi-Fi chip. Now, it appears that Broadcom's chips will be replaced in all fall iPhone models, including the iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max.

Connectivity Enhancements

Kuo mentions that this transition will "enhance connectivity across Apple devices," though details remain vague. The C1 chip improved battery life; thus, there is curiosity about whether similar benefits will arise from Apple's Wi-Fi chip and what specific connectivity improvements might occur.

The shift to in-house chips not only reduces costs but also aims to improve device integration. As Apple continues to develop its own components, it strengthens control over hardware and software synergy.
The introduction of these new chips reflects Apple's ongoing strategy to innovate within its product ecosystem. By designing its own components, Apple can tailor features more closely to user needs and maintain a competitive edge in technology advancements.
