iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max Launched With A20 Pro, 48MP Camera, and More: Price in India, Specs

Apple has officially launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, and this year's upgrades are concentrated around four areas: performance, cameras, battery life, and Apple Intelligence. Both phones are powered by the new A20 Pro chip, get a redesigned thermal system, and introduce Apple's first variable-aperture camera on an iPhone.

Apple has also made the Dynamic Island smaller and more useful. It can now display up to three Live Activities at once. The iPhone 18 Pro series comes in four finishes: Black, Silver, Glacier, and the new Burgundy.

At the heart of both phones is the new A20 Pro, built using a 2nm process. The chip features a six-core CPU with integrated Neural Accelerators, while the new seven-core GPU delivers up to 40% faster graphics performance than the A19 Pro. Apple has also increased memory bandwidth by 50%.

AI performance gets a sizeable boost too. A20 Pro features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 cores in total, which Apple says delivers twice the AI processing power of the A19 Pro.

Apple has redesigned the cooling system to make better use of that performance. The next-generation vapor chamber has three times the surface area of the system inside the iPhone 17 Pro, while the A20 Pro package has been redesigned so the chip can connect more directly to the vapor chamber. Apple claims this results in up to 40% better sustained performance compared with the previous generation.

Connectivity has also been upgraded. Apple's new N1 wireless chip brings Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, while the new C2 cellular modem promises faster uploads than C1X while consuming 15% less energy.

The headline camera upgrade is a new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. Six laser-cut blades allow the camera to move between different apertures depending on lighting and depth of field, while users can manually choose between four aperture settings in the Camera app. Apple also says the new sensor improves low-light photography and detail.

The new Pro controls allow users to manually adjust aperture, shutter speed, and white balance, while a histogram can be used to monitor exposure. Photographic Styles now include texture and grain controls. Apple has also added 4K Dolby Vision HDR recording to Time-lapse, while Cinematic effects can be applied after capture to videos shot at up to 60fps. Audio Mix gets new algorithms and can now isolate music.

Photographic Styles have also received new updates. Another new feature is Apple Reference Image, which captures signed sensor data that can be used to determine whether an image has been edited after it was captured.

Battery life sees a major jump as well. Apple says eSIM-only versions of the iPhone 18 Pro offer up to 36 hours of video playback, while the Pro Max reaches up to 45 hours. The iPhone 18 Pro can charge to 50% in around 15 minutes with a compatible wired charger, while the Pro Max can provide around seven hours of video playback from five minutes of wired charging

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs 1,64,900 in India, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900. Both models will be available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage configurations.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max begin in India on Saturday, September 12, with sales starting on Friday, September 18. India is part of the first wave of more than 65 countries and regions getting the new Pro models.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max ship with iOS 27, while Apple Intelligence will be available with the update from September 14. Siri AI will also begin rolling out in beta on the same day for supported users and languages.
