iPhone Air 2 Key Specs and Launch Timeline Leaked: Dual 48MP Cameras, A20 Pro Chip, Vapor Chamber, and More

The iPhone Air launched last September, and leaks for its successor are already piling up. The picture is getting clearer now, especially on timing. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported on June 17 that Apple is working on a second-generation iPhone Air, internally codenamed V62, targeting a spring 2027 launch. Tipster Digital Chat Station (via) has also separately claimed a Q1 2027 announcement.

That lines up with Apple's evolving iPhone release strategy. The iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the rumoured foldable iPhone are expected in late 2026, while the standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 are tipped to follow in spring 2027.

The Camera Is Getting Fixed

The original iPhone Air's single rear camera was arguably its biggest weakness at flagship prices. The Air 2 is expected to address this directly with the addition of a second 48MP ultrawide lens alongside the existing 48MP main camera. That would bring it closer to the standard iPhone lineup while still leaving a clear gap between it and the Pro models.

A redesigned, thinner Face ID module is also expected to free up internal space to make room for that second camera without increasing the phone's thickness.

A20 Pro on 2nm

The processor upgrade is one of the most consistently cited improvements across all leaks. The Air 2 is expected to step up to the A20 Pro chip, the same one anticipated in the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, built on TSMC's 2nm process.

Battery and Cooling

Battery life is another area Apple is actively working on for the Air 2. It's unclear whether the improvement will come from a larger battery, internal design changes, better efficiency from the A20 Pro, or a combination of all three. A silicon-carbon battery has been tipped in earlier leaks, which would offer higher energy density without adding bulk.

A vapor chamber for thermal management is also rumoured, similar to what's in the iPhone 17 Pro, which would help the chip sustain peak performance for longer.

Design and Display

The overall design stays slim and familiar. The Air 2 is expected to retain the 5.6mm thickness, titanium chassis, Ceramic Shield on both front and back, IP68 rating, and both the Action Button and Camera Control button.

On the display side, the Air 2 is tipped to adopt Samsung Display's Color Filter on Encapsulation OLED technology, which could make the panel thinner while improving colour accuracy.

Should You Wait

If you need a phone now, the current iPhone 17 Pro is the more practical buy. The Air 2 is still the better part of a year away at minimum, and the spring 2027 window is still based on leaks rather than anything confirmed by Apple.

But if the dual camera fix and improved battery life are things you've been waiting for, the Air 2 is shaping up to be a more complete version of what the original should have been.
