iPhone Fold Launch Still Planned for Apple's September Event Amid Manufacturing Concerns

Apple’s first foldable iPhone is now expected to arrive in September, despite fresh doubts earlier on 9 April. A new report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman states the iPhone Fold is “on track” for release during Apple’s regular iPhone launch window, countering claims of serious production delays.

Earlier on 9 April, Nikkei Asia reported major manufacturing issues with the foldable iPhone, suggesting a launch could slip by several months. That report coincided with a fall in Apple’s share price, prompting fresh concern among investors about the company’s plans for the new device.

iPhone Fold Back on Track for September Launch, Says New Report

Apple's Foldable on Track for September Launch

Gurman writes: “Apple Inc.'s first foldable phone is on track to arrive during the company's normal iPhone launch period later this year, people with knowledge of the matter said, rebutting concerns about major manufacturing snags." According to the report, the device is planned for launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

The unnamed sources cited by Bloomberg say Apple intends to present the iPhone Fold during its usual September event. As with other recent iPhone generations, the goal is for the new models to reach retail shelves about one week after the public unveiling, assuming production timing stays aligned.

iPhone Fold May Follow iPhone 18 Pro

The report notes that Apple expects the complex foldable display and new materials to affect early supply. Initial availability may be limited for several weeks, yet the current internal schedule still targets sales of the iPhone Fold around the same time, or shortly after, the standard iPhone 18 series models.

Gurman also includes a caution about the schedule: “Still, the release is six months away and production has yet to ramp up. That means the timing isn't final." Earlier reporting from Gurman suggested the iPhone Fold might arrive slightly after the iPhone 18 Pro, a sequence that remains possible if manufacturing changes.

Other reports on 9 April focus on design, size and branding for Apple’s foldable. One article compares iPhone Fold dimensions with the iPhone 18 Pro, while another video shows dummy units for the iPhone 18 Pro Max and the iPhone Fold. A separate leak claims “'iPhone Ultra' is the likely name of Apple's foldable, says leaker”.
