Apple iPhone X is the best selling smartphone of the first quarter of 2018 claims Strategy Analytics. Apple did a great business in the first three months, the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were launched alongside with the iPhone X back in September last year. Both the phones come in the second and third position in terms of selling. The Cupertino giant has taken all the top four position with the iPhone 7. The only Android smartphone which manages to take place in the top five list is the Redmi Mi 5A.
According to Strategy Analytics report's, the iPhone X captured 5 percent of the global smartphone market in Q1 of 2018, within the span of three months company have shipped 16 million units. On the other hand, Apple shipped 12.5 million units of iPhone 8, which had a 3.6 percent share of the market, and the iPhone 8 Plus shipped 8.3 million units, and have 2.4 percent market share. Surprisingly iPhone 7 has also seen 5.6 million units shipped, apparently, this figure is a fall from its record 21.5 million units in Q1 2017.
"For the second quarter running, the iPhone X remains the world's most popular smartphone model overall, due to a blend of good design, sophisticated camera, extensive apps, and widespread retail presence for the device," said Juha Winter, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics. "Apple has now shifted almost 50 million iPhone X units worldwide since commercial launch in November 2017."
While leaving all the big brands back Xiaomi Redmi 5A become the first Android contender manages to be in the top five list. The Xiaomi Redmi 5A saw 5.4 million shipments of units, marginally behind the iPhone 7.
The entry-level smartphone was launched in China in October 2017 and entered into to India in November. The company launched its first 5 million units in India as an introductory model with Rs 1,000 discount, and it brings its price down to Rs. 4,999. The introductory price offer was ended in March.
"Xiaomi has become wildly popular across India and China," said Linda Sui, Director at Strategy Analytics. "Xiaomi is selling a huge volume of smartphones through online channels, with key retail partners including Flipkart and JD."
