iQOO has launched its new Z9 series smartphones in China, offering a range of devices for budget-conscious users who prioritize performance. The lineup includes three models: Z9, Z9x, and Z9 Turbo.

Here, we are focusing on the vanilla iQOO Z9 and the entry-level iQOO Z9x. Just a heads up, the iQOO Z9 released today is specifically designed for the Chinese market and should not be mistaken for the version launched in India back in March. As such, there are significant differences between the two versions.

Displaying the Difference: AMOLED vs. LCD

The Z9 takes the lead with a larger 6.78-inch AMOLED display, boasting a sharper 1.5K resolution and a buttery smooth 144Hz refresh rate for gamers and fast scrollers. This premium display also gets brighter, reaching a peak brightness of 4,500 nits, ideal for outdoor use. Security is seamlessly integrated with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

The Z9x takes a slightly more budget-friendly approach with a 6.72-inch LCD display. While offering a still-respectable FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, it won't quite match the Z9's peak brightness, topping out at 1,000 nits. The Z9x incorporates a side-mounted fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button for user convenience.

Despite their internal differences, both the Z9 and Z9x share a similar design aesthetic. The flat frames offer a comfortable grip, while the squarish camera module draws inspiration from the iQOO 12, lending a modern touch. Both phones come equipped with a large 6,000mAh battery, promising long-lasting endurance on a single charge. The Z9 goes a step further with 80W fast charging technology, allowing users to quickly top up their battery when needed. The Z9x offers a respectable 44W fast charging solution, ensuring you're not tethered to an outlet for extended periods.

Software: A Fresh Start with OriginOS 4

The Z9 and Z9x come pre-installed with OriginOS 4, based on the latest Android 14 operating system. This provides users with a clean and up-to-date software experience with the latest features and security updates.

Pricing

Since India has its own version of the iQOO Z9 priced under ₹19,999, we can expect the iQOO Z9x to be priced in the country under the ₹14,999 bracket. For information, the iQOO Z9x starts at CNY 1,499 (approximately ₹10,900).
