Android 16 Features
Android 16 brings a host of new features aimed at improving user experience, accessibility, security, and productivity.
Streamlined Notifications
Android 16 introduces live notification updates, keeping you informed in real-time. These live updates are now starting with compatible ride-share and food delivery apps. This feature ensures you stay updated without constantly opening the app. Google is also working together with these app partners to bring this capability to the Android ecosystem, including in Samsung's Now Bar and OPPO and OnePlus' Live Alerts.
Enhanced Calling for Users with Hearing Aids
Android 16 brings new upgrades for users with hearing aids. LE Audio hearing devices use their built-in front-facing microphones, which are designed to capture the voice of the person you're speaking with, not your own. With Android 16, you now have the option to use your phone's microphone instead, providing clearer call quality in noisy environments. Additionally, Android 16 introduces native control for hearing devices in Android 16 for easier access and a more consistent experience.
Stronger Security in a Single Tap
Android 16 introduces Advanced Protection, Google's most powerful mobile security feature, now just a tap away. This enhanced protection suite shields your device from online threats, malicious apps, unsafe websites, scam calls, and more.
Enhanced Productivity for Tablets
In Android 16, Google worked closely with Samsung to develop desktop windowing, which built on the success of Samsung DeX. This functionality allows users to interact with apps on tablets and foldables in a more flexible, desktop-like environment.
You'll now be able to open, move, and resize multiple app windows on the same screen, just like on a computer. Desktop windowing will roll out later this year on compatible devices.
