Leaked Xiaomi 15 Details Hint at Major Qualcomm Branding Shift

Qualcomm is set to unveil its flagship processor next month, powering the next generation of high-end models from Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Samsung. Initially, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3's successor was expected to be named the 8 Gen 4. However, recent reports suggest Qualcomm's upcoming SoC will be called the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Similarly, another leaked poster of the upcoming Xiaomi 15 series reveals the phone will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, not the anticipated Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The poster also confirms the launch date of Xiaomi's flagship series.

Xiaomi 15 Series Could Launch On This Date

The leaked poster (initially leaked by Digital Chat Station) suggests that the Xiaomi 15 series could feature the "Snapdragon 8 Elite" processor. However, the latest leaked poster reaffirms the same along with the launch date of the Xiaomi 15 series.

If this turns out to be true, the next-gen Xiaomi phones will be announced on October 23. This means Qualcomm will unveil the chipset before this date. It's also worth noting Qualcomm has not shared any details regarding its naming strategy, so, we suggest our readers take it with a pinch of salt.

Earlier, Don McGuire, the Chief Marketing Officer at Qualcomm revealed the next-gen flagship chipset will be announced at the Snapdragon Summit in October 2024, which will feature Qualcomm's custom Oryon CPU along with an improved NPU performance.

Even, the chip reportedly ran the game Genshin Impact smoothly for 45 minutes at 1080p resolution, maintaining a 60fps frame rate. The Adreno 830 GPU of the chip scored 10% higher than Apple's M2 chip in the 3DMark Wild Life Extreme Stress Test.

Xiaomi 15 Series: What to Expect?

The Xiaomi 15 series comprising the standard 15 and 15 Pro models is expected to arrive with a 6.36-inch flat display with 1.5K resolution (2500 x 1200 pixels), an adaptive refresh rate of 120Hz, and up to 1,400 nits brightness.

Rumors suggest the Xiaomi 15 series will boast a 50MP OmniVision OV50K primary camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP Sony IMX8-series periscope telephoto camera with up to 5x optical zoom. The Xiaomi 15 Pro may pack a 6,000mAh battery, while the standard variant could have a 5,000mAh battery.

Beyond these models, the brand is reportedly developing the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, expected to launch in the first quarter of next year. However, Xiaomi has yet to confirm this.
