Lenovo K5 and K5 Play launched; Specs, features and price

Lenovo today announced the launch of two new smartphones in China, the K5 and K5 Play (aka K5 Lite). The smartphones were launched alongside the S5. The K5 and K5 Play are priced at CNY 899 (approx. Rs. 9,300) and CNY 699 (approx. Rs. 7,200) respectively. Both the smartphones come with full-screen displays and dual rear cameras.

The Lenovo K5 will go on sale in China from April 10 and the K5 Play will go on sale from April 17. However, the reservations for the smartphones are already open. The K5 will be available in Elf Blue, Space Grey, and Star Black colour variants, whereas the K5 Play will come in Jazz Blue, Modern Gold, and Punk Black colour options. There is no word on the global availability of the phones.

The Lenovo K5 is fitted with a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) IPS display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6750V processor. The chipset is paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The storage space can be further expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.

Talking about the cameras, the K5 sports a dual rear camera setup which comprises of a 13MP primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP secondary sensor with f/2.2 aperture. The smartphone has an 8MP selfie snapper with f/2.0 aperture at the front.

The device is backed by a 3,000mAh battery and it runs on Android 7.0 Nougat with custom ZUI 3.1 on top. Connectivity features onboard include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS. There are sensors like accelerometer, ambient light sensor, magnetometer, proximity sensor, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The K5 Play sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) 18:9 display. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor coupled with 2GB/3GB variants. There are two storage variants of the smartphone; 16GB and 32GB. The storage space is further expandable up to 128GB via the microSD card slot.

On the optics front, the K5 Play also sports a dual camera setup at its back. There is a 13MP main sensor with f/2.0 aperture and a 2MP secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture. The rear camera is accompanied by a LED flash module. The smartphone also features an 8MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.

The K5 Play is also packs a 3,000mAh battery but it runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with ZUI 3.7. The phone's connectivity suite offers 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and GPS. Sensors include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, magnetometer, proximity sensor and a fingerprint scanner.
