LG G7 to launch “when the time is right” says company representative
LG's upcoming flagship won't be called LG G7 as the company wants to rebrand its G lineup of smartphones.
LG was the first manufacturer to launch its flagship smartphone in 2017. However, things won't be quite the same this year. LG's Vice Chairmen recently confirmed that the company was moving away from yearly flagship smartphone releases. Then a South Korean publication reported that LG's VP and CEO Jo Seong-jin has directed the company's mobile division to start work on its upcoming flagship device from scratch.
This report gave birth to the speculations that LG G7 won't get unveiled at MWC 2018. Android Central further claimed that the smartphone won't launch until April or later. Interestingly, the same website has now revealed a piece of information that contradicts with its previous report. According to the folks at Android Central, an LG representative has given them a statement that dismisses the rumors.
"The successor to the G6 is on schedule and the official name will be announced when the time is right. Until then, reports of a decision being made on the timing and name are all speculative", the LG representative was quoted as saying by the publication.
While this may not be considered as an official confirmation, it seems like LG's next flagship is not falling behind the launch schedule. That being said, the company is unlikely to launch the G7 (or whatever it will be called) at MWC 2018 next month.
When it comes to specifications, the LG G7 (yes, we are still referring to it with the same name) is expected to sport a 5.8-inch full-screen display that will deliver the QHD+ resolution of 2,560×1,440 pixels. The display is also said to feature the trending 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the smartphone will probably be driven by Qualcomm's latest flagship processor Snapdragon 845.
The handset is said to offer 6GB of RAM and 128GB of default storage space that can be further expanded via the microSD card slot. A 3,500mAh battery with fast charging support is likely to power the entire package.
In terms of optics, the upcoming LG flagship could be equipped with a dual rear camera setup comprising of two 16-megapixel image sensors. The selfie camera is rumored to be of 8-megapixel. It is also believed that the smartphone will feature a USB Type-C port and retain the 3.5mm audio jack.
