LG Nexus 5X vs LG G4 vs Sony Xperia Z5: What’s different?
LG recently unveiled their Nexus device at the Google Conference on 29th of September. Sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 SoC and a 13MP rear camera, the Nexus 5X isn't the fastest device around. Nevertheless it the cheapest Android Marshmallow device available, and at a price of Rs 31,999 it has a no of things working for it.
However you might already be wondering is it better than the 5-6 months old LG G4? After all it comes with a similar SoC. Another probable alternative could be the Sony Xperia Z5. So which one should you go for? Let's find out.
Build & Design:
LG G4 is presumably the best looking device among the three. The leather stitched back cover add a plush and premium feel to the device. With a rounded back cover it is needless to say that the LG G4 isn't one of the slimmest devices around, measuring at 9.8mm.
The Sony Xperia Z5 is quite a looker too. It uses the typical Omnibalance design language of Sony - the dual glass and metal profile.
On the other hand the Nexus 5X comes with a fuss free polycarbonate body and devoid of any funky design touches. Nevertheless it the slimmest among the three and has a good hand held feel.
Display:
While the LG Nexus 5X and the Sony Xperia Z5 sport a similar sized display 5.2 inch Full HD (1920x1080) display, the LG G4 boats of a Quad HD (2560x1440) panel.
All the three devices however use an IPS LCD Panel. So if you are a fan of those saturated display, then better venture elsewhere. But just in case you have only three of these in mind, then it's better off to go with the Xperia Z5.
In terms of protection the LG made devices - Nexus 5X and G4 - use Gorilla Glass 3, whereas the Sony Z5 comes with an unknown Scratch Resistant Glass. Nevertheless all the three devices come with an Oleophobic coating against fingerprints.
Under the hood:
Sony Xperia Z5 with its octa core Snapdragon 810 SoC is a clear winner here. This is coupled with an Adreno 430 GPU and a 3GB of RAM.
On the other hand the Nexus 5X and the G4 features a hexa core Snapdragon 808 coupled with an Adreno 418. In spite of being a tad low in terms of power, the Snapdragon 808 is a much reliable when it comes to heating and throttling issues.
Nevertheless the major issue plaguing the Nexus 5X is its RAM. The 2GB RAM bundled in the Nexus 5X may be enough for the average end users however it clearly takes a back seat in terms of mere specs comparisons.
Camera:
In terms of camera the Xperia Z5 is a clear winner thanks to the 23MP unit on the back. The LG isn't a slouch either. In fact the 16MP Sony made rear camera used by LG is one of the best in the business. It won't be a far stretched assumption to claim that the LG G4 still has one of the best Flagship camera out there.
Needless to state that both the device can shoot 4K aka. QHD video at 30fps. There is also provision of Full HD (1080p) at 60fps and HD (720p) at 30fps.
The Nexus 5X however sadly fits in a rather small 12.3MP unit on the back. On the front of the Nexus 5X and Xperia Z5 is a 5MP selfie snapper whereas the LG G4 comes with an 8MP unit.
Hence if camera is your concern, then LG G4 should be your pick.
Battery:
The LG Nexus 5X comes with the smallest unit on the back - 2700mAh. The Sony Xperia Z5 however comes with a slightly larger 2900mAh. Sporting a Snapdragon 810 on the inside, the Xperia badly needed this battery boost. However the LG G4 is a clear winner in this department thanks to the 3000mAh unit.
Connectivity:
The three devices come with the usual set of connectivity features including a WiFi a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.1 and A-GPS. Additionally they support 4G LTE connectivity too. However the USP of the Nexus 5X lies in the USB Type C port located at the bottom of the device.
Fingerprint Sensor:
The Nexus 5X is only device among the three to sport a Fingerprint sensor for added level of security. In fact Google is calling this fingerprint sensor as one fastest available in the market.
OS:
As expected the Nexus 5X runs the latest Android Lollipop (6.0) out of the box, whereas the others still run on custom builds of Android Lollipop (5.1.1.). Nevertheless both the LG G4 and Sony Xperia Z5 will be receiving the Marshmallow update by the end of this year.
Price:
As expected the Sony Xperia is the costliest among the trio at Rs 51,800 approx. The recently launched Nexus 5X is the cheapest of the lot at Rs 31,999, whereas the LG G4 is now available at around Rs 42,000 via e-commerce retailers in India.
Verdict:
Let's make the choice simple. If you are on a look out for a device for multimedia consumption, browsing internet, social networking along with a great camera then look no further than the LG G4.
However if you want to own a stylish device, that can turn a few eyeballs then Sony Xperia Z5 should be your obvious choice. But do bear in mind that you would need to dole out Rs 10,000 for mere styling cues and a larger MP camera (you don't require a 23MP camera for social media sharing).
On the other hand if you are a fan of Stock Android, Constant Software Updates and want to brag about owning an Android Marshmallow device, then add the Nexus 5X to your cart!
