LG recently unveiled its flagship G7 smartphone. And corroborating the previous leaks, the device had an iPhone-like notch. The Essential Phone was technically the first device with a notch. But, rumors of iPhone X's design were already doing rounds that time.

LG claims to have thought of the notch before Apple

Now a lot of OEMs have launched their smartphones with a notch. The list includes industry giants such as Huawei, Asus, Oppo and many more. The latest entrant was the LG G7, but the company claims that it thought of the notch way before Apple.

At an event for the phone in Seoul, LG mobile division chief Hwang Jeong-hwan said, "We planned the notch design before Apple." He also added that instead of calling it a notch, LG prefers to think of the added screen space as a 'second display.'

The Q&A also revealed some interesting details. When asked about using LCD for the G7, Hwang replied that it was always the plan for G phones to use LCD. However, the OLED panels were reserved for the V series of phones. He declined to share a sales target for the G7, saying, "we do expect better results than the G6."

The company also hinted about future Animoji support. Hwang said, "Those software features can be updated later and will be available both on the G7 and other preceding models to meet the demand of consumers who want a longer lifespan for their smartphones."

As for the specifications, the LG G7 ThinQ comes with a 6.1-inch LCD display with a resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels, along with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The display has a "Super Bright" mode which can increase the brightness up to 1,000 nits.

The flagship is powered by a Snapdragon 845 processor, paired with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of onboard storage respectively. If that is not enough you can also expand the memory with the microSD card.

Camera wise, the LG G7 sports a dual-camera setup with the combination of a 16MP primary sensor at f/1.6 aperture, and a wide-angle 107° 16MP shooter at a f/1.9 aperture. On the front, the phone houses an 8MP selfie camera with a f/1.9 sensor. LG claims that the smartphone comes with AI functionality. It can automatically adjust camera settings based on what the user is shooting.
