MediaTek and Reliance Jio may launch Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone in India
MediaTek seems to be focused on the Indian market and has plans to help smartphone players bring premium features to mid-range devices in the country.
MediaTek seems to be focused on the Indian market and has plans to help smartphone players bring premium features to mid-range devices in the country. The company has showcased several future-ready smart technologies during an event in Delhi. However, apart from that, the Taiwanese chipmaker has reportedly announced its partnership with Reliance Jio and both the companies will be working together to bring affordable smartphones running Android Oreo (Go edition) in the market.
According to reports, the smartphone will feature alongside the JioPhone. Unfortunately, details about the handset including the price and availability are yet to be announced. "India is a market of immense opportunities with its own set of aspirations and needs. We continue to intensify our technology collaboration in India, even beyond smartphones, and recognize its importance in the global marketplace," said TL Lee, General Manager, Wireless Communication, MediaTek.
"MediaTek is already powering smartphones that have high-end features yet affordable to all. We will continue to innovate on the smartphone side this year in India to deliver devices that have become the primary access point for a connected lifestyle," Lee added.
Previously in December MediaTek had announced its partnership with Google Android Oreo (Go Edition) project. First Android Oreo (Go edition) smartphones powered by MediaTek processors are expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2018 around the globe. Considering this, Reliance Jio Android Go phone could be launching at this time as well.
And to fulfill such needs, MediaTek has announced that it is bringing its latest SoCs namely MT6739, MT6739, and MT6580 to support the Android Go platform.
MediaTek also showcased its MT6739 SoC and stated that the chip supports functions for a dual camera system, face unlock, and dual 4G VoLTE even on the highly optimized Android Oreo (Go Edition). Also, the high-speed quad-core System on Chips (SoCs) are said to be built for India's rapidly growing 4G market. And there's more, the new chip as per the company will offer seamless performance even with 512MB and 1GB RAM options.
Apart from its partnership for Android Oreo (Go Edition), MediaTek also showcased "Sensio MT6381" -- a six-in-one biosensor module that can easily be incorporated into smartphone designs and give users access anywhere to monitor their health.
MediaTek "Sensio MT6381" is a comprehensive software and module solution designed specifically to deliver valuable health data, consisting of optical, electrical and processing components. With "Sensio", manufacturers will be able to develop proprietary applications or leverage third-party applications and developer add-ons, the company said.
