MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Likely to Power Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO Phones: Report

MediaTek, the Taiwanese semiconductor tech giant recently unveiled the Dimensity 9400 to power the flagship devices. Now, the brand seems to be launching the Dimensity 8400 chipset soon, which has been in the news for a while.

In July, this processor's AnTuTu benchmark scores were revealed online. Now, it has been spotted on Xiaomi's HyperOS software, suggesting an imminent launch. Here is what the latest report suggests about the upcoming Dimensity 8400.

MediaTek Dimensity 8400 SoC: What to Expect?

In the latest development, the Gizmochina team spotted the Dimensity 8400 in Xiaomi's HyperOS software with the model number "MT6899". While it doesn't reveal any features of the upcoming SoC, it is expected to be a non-flagship chip that will power Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO phones.

However, an earlier report suggested that the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 scored between 1.7 and 1.8 million on the AnTuTu benchmark test, which is higher compared to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. Even the upcoming MediaTek processor is expected to give tough competition to the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Moreover, the smartphones equipped with the MediaTek SoC are rumoured to start at CNY 1,500 (roughly Rs 17,400). As of now, features and the exact timeline for the launch are still under wraps. If it follows the same launch timeline as last year's Dimensity 8300, we expect it might arrive next month.

To recall, the Dimensity 8300 is built on TSMC's second-generation 4nm process and the octa-core CPU comprises 4x Arm Cortex-A715 performance cores clocked at up to 3.35GHz and 4x Arm Cortex-A510 efficiency units at up to 2.2GHz. It also offers a 60% increase in performance and 55% improved power efficiency at peak speeds, compared to its predecessor, the Dimensity 8200.
