MediaTek is all set to launch its first 5G capable mobile processor with the MediaTek Helio M70 5G modem. This is also the first chipset from the company based on 7nm fabrication. The info page of the Helio M70 5G modem is already up and it reveals some of the features and specifications.

It Will Be A Standalone Chipset

The listing confirms that the Helio M70 5G modem will be integrated into a chipset that is also built on 7nm FinFET fabrication. The 5G modem will offer up to 4.7Gbps of download and 2.5Gbps of upload speeds.

The chipset is also compliant with the 3GPP Rel-15 specifications with support for 5G NR bands such as N41, N77, N78, and N79. As per the 4G network is concerned, the chipset does support B40 and B41 4G LTE bands.

The modem will utilize sub-6GHz and New Radio (NR) 2 Component Carrier (CC) technologies to achieve the aforementioned numbers. With the multi-mode support, the Helio M70 5G model can smartly switch between 5G, 4G, 3G, and 2G networks with dynamic power-sharing support that helps the phone to reduce the power consumption.

The CPU cores of the chipset will be based on Arm Mali-G77 GPU Arm Cortex-A77 CPU architecture and it will also come with the latest Arm Mali-G77 GPU for offering unprecedented gaming experience. Thanks to the 7nm fabrication, there is an improvement in power efficiency which helps in extending the battery life up to 50 percent.

The new IPS will be capable of supporting up to 80MP resolution camera and also offers 4K 60fps video encoding and decoding. The chipset also supports HPUE that improves uplink capacity.

MediaTek is bringing 5G connectivity to consumers faster by targeting the sub‑6GHz frequency band - ideal for urban environments and rural areas, along with developing new cellular technologies for future connectivity standards like- mmWave beamforming and NOMA/MUIC.
