Micromax sells 2 million units of Bharat -2 smartphones, plans to expand series

Home - grown handsets maker Micromax today said that the company has sold two million Bharat-2 smartphones by the end of August and it working on expanding its Bharat series with 3 new smartphones- Bharat-2 plus, Bharat-3 and Bharat-4, which will all be available in the offline retail stores within the next fortnight.

The Bharat Series is the only Google certified series of smartphones in the budget category in the Indian handset market and it is aimed at an acquisition of the first generation smartphone users in the country who till now were looking at their opportunity to migrate from a feature phone.

Rahul Sharma, Co-Founder, Micromax Informatics said "There are more than 400 million feature phone users who are waiting to move to smartphones that give the experience without straining their budgets. The exception acceptance of Bharat-2 is a testimony of our vision and also goes to prove that there is a huge appetite for budget VoLTE smartphones amongst the Indian telecom subscriber. Hence, we are further working towards fulfilling the need gap for our consumers and with the expansion of Bharat -series we believe that we will truly drive the next phase of smartphone adoption in the country."

He further said that "The less than budget category currently contributes close to 25 percent of the market and moving ahead we expect the Bharat-series to approximately 25 percent of the Micromax' s portfolio."

The range is targeted to bring in the next phase of smartphone adoption in the country by hand-holding consumers to upgrade from feature phones to smartphones. Greater device affordability will drive increased smartphone adoption and VoLTE adoption in the country. At the end of 2016, more than 90 percent of the telecom subscriptions in India were using 3G and 4G services.

Between the Bharat series of smartphones, Micromax intends to bring the better camera, battery and display options for the new smartphone users. The Bharat-3 and Bharat-4 phones come with some of the compelling features in the budget category like Smart Key, 22 Indian language support, OTG support and more. The Bharat 2 Plus will come with a 5MP rear camera, 1600 mAh battery, latest Android N and much more.
