Rumours regarding the upcoming flagship Lumia devices aka. 940 and the 940XL has been making rounds for quite sometime now. Nevertheless a recent rumour hint at an October 19th launch date for Microsoft's upcoming flagship handsets.
The Redmond giant is speculated to shed light on the 940 and 940XL at an event in New York. Furthermore, Microsoft is also tipped to launch the successor to the Surface Pro 3 on that very day. There are few speculations though, regarding the naming adopted by Microsoft.
The company was previously tipped to jump away from the next 940 series and leap frog straight to the 950s. But that doesn't seem so as of now. There's still a slight chance though, that the company may put their flagship devices in the 950 series.
A few days back a rumoured had cropped up which hinted at a launch October launch, but no specific date was mentioned then. The Lumia 940XL is said to feature a 5.7 inch display with a QHD (2560x1440) resolution display with Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC under the hood. The RAM will be on the higher side at 3GB - considering this is a Windows phone.
The optics on the other hand will be led by a 20 megapixel PureView Camera on the back. On the front would be 5 megapixel selfie snapper. Additionally it is said to come with a USB Type C port. Iris Sensor and a Native Pen/Stylus (much like the popular S-Pen from Samsung).
The lower specced 940 on the other hand will have a smaller footprint with a 5.2 inch display size. Under the hood will be a hexacore Snapdragon 808 chip as found in the LG G4. Rest of the specs are said to be carried over from its bigger siblings. It goes without saying that both the device be running on Windows 10 Mobile.
