Moto Z2 Play might receive Android Oreo update soon: Soak testing begins
Moto Z2 Play Android Oreo update release seems imminent.
Moto Z2 Play might soon receive Android Oreo update if reports are true. While Motorola is yet to officially announce the rollout, new reports online suggest that the company has now started soak testing Android 8.0 Oreo for Moto Z2 Play smartphone. The testing seems to have begun in Brazil. This could be good news for the device owners as the update of the new version could land in their devices in the coming days once the tests are completed.
Just to give you a brief idea about Soak testing, it involves testing a system with a typical production load, over a continuous availability period, to validate system behavior under production use. Soak tests are used primarily to check the reaction of a subject under test under a possible simulated environment for a given duration and for a given threshold. Observations made during the soak test are used to improve the characteristics of the subject under further tests.
So users in Brazil who have enrolled in the beta program are getting the update. According to XDA Developers who were the first to spot the update have reported that it is 1.13GB in size. It brings the latest Oreo firmware along with the latest January security patch as well as the usual optimizations.
However the main highlight of this update is Android Oreo, So beta users will basically be able to experience Oreo and the features it brings hands on. As such, Oreo brings in features like picture-in-picture, Smart Text Selection, Notification Dots, Android Instant Apps, Google Play Protect improved booting time, extend battery life and a whole lot more.
Having said that, while the testing has begun we can't exactly tell how long it will take for Motorola to complete the soak test and then move to the official rollout. Considering Motorola's history with the past updates, the company could take about a month to release the update. Of course, the company will be doing a lot of tests from detection of bugs to taking in feedback from the testers, and then finally fixing all the errors to come out with a stable version. All in all the rollout could commence from March as per our speculations. The timings could change tough.
