Motorola Starts Rolling Out OTA Updates to Support 5G; Is Your Moto Phone on the List?
Motorola is one of the smartphone makers that has quickly switched to providing 5G connectivity to its users. The company has now announced that it is committed to accelerating the 5G adoption in India and has announced the roadmap of software update rollout to its smartphones. With the update, Motorola users can experience Airtel and Jio 5G networks in the coming weeks.
The company has confirmed that Motorola 5G smartphones available in India have the necessary hardware to support 11 to 13 5G bands. This includes all 8 Sub 6GHz 5G bands. In addition, the company has started rolling out the OTA update to enable 5G across both the SA (standalone) network offered by Jio and the NSA (non-standalone) network offered by Airtel and Vi.

Motorola Starts Rolling Out OTA Updates to Support 5G
Prashanth Mani, Executive Director, Motorola Asia Pacific, has confirmed that they have started rolling out the OTA software updates to their offerings. While 11 Motorola smartphones support 5G, the newly launched -- Moto Edge 30 Ultra and Moto Edge 30 Fusion, have started receiving the update. These phones can support both Jio True 5G and Airtel 5G Plus networks in India. The rest of the Motorola smartphones are slated to get the software update by the first week of November.
To be precise, the Moto G72 5G, Moto G82 5G, Moto Edge 30, and Moto G71 5G are slated to receive the OTA update to support 5G networks on October 25. On the other hand, the Moto G51 5G and Moto Edge 30 Pro are to get the OTA update on November 5.
5G Bands Supported By Motorola Smartphones
Currently, Airtel 5G supports 900 MHz (n8), 1800 MHz (n3), 2100 MHz (n1), 3300 MHz (n78), 26 GHz (n258) bands. Likewise, Jio 5G supports 700 MHz (n28), 3300 MHz (n78), and 26 GHz (n58) bands. Given that Motorola smartphones support 11 to 13 5G bands, almost all these smartphones should deliver impressive performance on the next-gen network.

Affordable 5G Phones to Speed Up Adoption
In a related development, top representatives from the DoT (Department of Telecommunications) and MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) met with operators and smartphone makers. In the meeting, a deadline of three months was given to switch over to 5G services with 5G smartphones.
Going by the same, manufacturers will gradually move towards making 5G phones priced at or above Rs. 10,000. In India, 100 million customers have 5G-capable phones, but over 350 million users have 3G or 4G-only phones.
Smartphone companies have informed government officials that they are eying to discontinue producing 3G-4G compatible phones priced above Rs 10,000 to speed up 5G adoption with affordable offerings. Given that a majority of Motorola smartphones fall in the affordable or mid-range market segment, these offerings can help consumers switch to next-gen mobile services.
