Motorola has officially started rolling out the Android 17 update in India, marking the beginning of a phased software rollout across its smartphone portfolio. The company's flagship Signature series is receiving the update first, with other eligible premium, foldable and mid-range devices expected to follow in subsequent phases.

The update is being distributed over the air (OTA) in batches. As a result, availability may vary depending on the smartphone model, region and carrier approvals. Motorola users can check for the update through the Software Update section in their device settings.

Android 17 Brings New Interface and Tools

The Android 17 update introduces a redesigned interface with changes to several core system elements. Motorola is bringing a refreshed Quick Settings panel and cleaner system menus featuring larger touch targets for easier navigation.

The update also expands personalisation options with improved HDR brightness management. Interactive home screen widgets now support snap-scrolling, allowing users to access more information without taking up additional space.

Accessibility has also received attention. Motorola has redesigned vision settings, display scaling and screen magnification controls to make them easier to configure. A new hardware diagnostics hub allows users to check component health and review system performance information directly on the device.

New AI and Privacy Features

Artificial intelligence and privacy are among the key areas receiving upgrades. Circle to Search now supports real-time, on-screen language translation, making it easier to understand content in other languages.

Android 17 also introduces automated scam protection that can scan incoming SMS and messaging conversations for potentially suspicious content. A new Failed Authentication Lock adds another layer of protection following repeated unsuccessful authentication attempts.

Motorola is also improving media sharing. The upgraded Quick Share feature can generate QR codes that allow iPhone and other non-Android users to download shared files through a web interface. Instant Hotspot has also been streamlined for faster tethering.

Additionally, Nearby Audio Streams allows compatible devices to broadcast audio to nearby receivers, while improved notification grouping is designed to keep alerts more organised.
