Motorola Introduces Android 16 Update With New Features For Premium Smartphones
Motorola has started distributing the Android 16 operating system to its smartphone lineup. The update will initially be available for three premium models. These include the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, Motorola Edge 60 Fusion, and Motorola Edge 50 Pro. The update will be delivered over-the-air, bringing new software features and improvements to these devices.
Key Features of Android 16
The Android 16 update introduces several new features. Notification Auto Grouping helps manage multiple app alerts by condensing them, reducing clutter. Improved Hearing Device Support enhances integration with hearing aids, including LE Audio devices in noisy settings. Instant Hotspot allows tablets and Chromebooks signed into the same Google account to connect to a user's smartphone hotspot without needing a password.

Additionally, the Modes feature lets users create personalised profiles for various activities like working or sleeping. This controls notifications, app behaviour, and system settings. Security Enhancements include "Advanced Protection" and an updated Moto Secure 5.5 suite with a "Secure Power-Off" function.
Enhanced System Features
The update also brings a refreshed interface, smarter system settings, new diagnostic tools, expanded battery insights, and improved accessibility options. Motorola plans to extend this rollout to more devices in the future.
Comparing Android 15 and Android 16 reveals significant improvements. Notifications are now grouped for a clutter-free view. Accessibility features have been enhanced with flash notifications, audio adjustments, timing controls, and text-to-speech improvements.
Connectivity and Personalisation
Hotspot connectivity is simplified with Instant Hotspot for automatic connections across Google account devices. Modes & Personalisation now offer a centralised hub for activities like Sleeping, Driving, Working, or Custom modes alongside Advanced Protection for security.
System diagnostics have been upgraded with new device diagnostics and component health monitoring. Battery information is more detailed with health stats included.
Language Options and Security Enhancements
The update expands system languages and regional preferences while improving privacy and security setup through an enhanced Startup Wizard. Messages & Phone features see updates in spam protection via Play Store updates, caller ID improvements, and voicemail options.
Moto-specific security enhancements include Moto Secure 5.5 which prevents stolen or lost phone shutdowns through Secure Power-Off along with an advanced privacy dashboard & controls.
T.M. Narasimhan, Managing Director of Motorola India commented on the rollout: "The rollout of Android 16 on our smartphones demonstrates our commitment to providing faster, smarter, and more secure updates...
