MWC 2025: Realme Showcases New Concept that Allows You to Attach a DSLR Lens to a Smartphone
At the Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona, Realme introduced its Interchangeable-Lens Concept, a prototype smartphone. This device explores modular optics in mobile photography. It includes a customised 1-inch Sony sensor and a unique lens mount system. This allows DSLR lenses to be attached. The concept was shown with two lenses: a 73mm portrait lens and a 234mm telephoto lens.
The lenses are designed to boost optical performance, offering features like shallow depth of field and a claimed lossless 10x zoom. Realme describes this prototype as an effort to tackle current mobile imaging limitations, such as sensor size constraints and digital zoom quality issues. The company is exploring modular optics integration to potentially enhance image quality.

Realme AI-Powered Imaging Technologies
Alongside the hardware concept, Realme showcased two AI-powered imaging technologies: AI Voice-based Retoucher and AI Video Eraser. The AI Voice-based Retoucher allows users to edit photos using voice commands. This technology simplifies editing by enabling users to request specific changes through spoken instructions, such as removing backgrounds or replacing skies.
The AI Video Eraser is designed for easy removal of unwanted objects or people from video footage with just one tap. This technology aims to streamline video editing tasks, providing an efficient solution for users. These innovations reflect Realme's ongoing exploration of AI integration within its imaging software, aiming to enhance user experience and simplify editing workflows.
While the Interchangeable-Lens Concept remains a prototype not intended for immediate mass production, it illustrates Realme's research and development efforts in mobile photography. By addressing current limitations in mobile imaging technology, Realme seeks to improve image quality through innovative solutions.
