OPPO ColorOS 16 September 2026 Update Enhances Photo Management And Privacy: Check New Features & Eligibility

OPPO has started rolling out its September ColorOS 16 update, with the latest build focused mainly on Photos, Private Safe and easier text extraction from images. The update is being released in phases from September 1 to September 30, so availability will depend on the device model and region.

The most useful change for everyday users is in the Photos app. ColorOS 16 now allows users to edit the date and time of a photo directly inside Photos. This can help fix incorrect timestamps, especially for images transferred from older phones, restored backups or photos taken in a different time zone.

ColorOS 16 Photos App Gets Better Album Controls

OPPO has also added an option to hide selected customised albums from the main Photos view. This should make the gallery cleaner for users who maintain separate albums for screenshots, work images, downloads or personal collections. The update also lets users select multiple photos and add them to favourites in one action.

Photos and Albums now support two new browsing styles: Immersive and By Date. Immersive view is designed for a more visual way to revisit memories, while By Date helps users locate a photo from a specific day more quickly. These changes are aimed at making large photo libraries easier to manage.

Scan Text and Private Safe Improvements

The update also brings a Scan Text feature that can extract text directly from an image. Once detected, the text can be copied, edited or shared. For document photos, ColorOS 16 adds tools to rotate, straighten, remove glare and remove shadows, which should help when scanning receipts, notes or printed pages.

Private Safe is also getting a more convenient file-adding process. Users can now select multiple files in different formats from the home page, and the system will automatically store them by file type. The option is available through Settings, then Security and Privacy, followed by Private Safe and the Add icon.

OPPO says photo browsing has also been optimised to reduce accidental selections while scrolling. This is a small but practical change for users who often select several images at once for sharing, deleting, hiding or moving into albums.

The phased rollout covers the OPPO Find X9 Ultra, Find X9 Pro, Find X9s, Find X9, Find X8 Pro, Find X8, Reno16 5G, Reno15 Pro 5G and Reno15 5G. Users can check for the update from the phone’s software update settings, though it may take some time to appear on all eligible units.
