Nokia 5, Nokia 6 start receiving Android 8.1 Oreo update
The Android 8.1 Oreo update weighs about 866MB for Nokia 5 and 933MB for Nokia 6.
Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 have started receiving the latest iteration of Google's Android OS. HMD Global is now rolling out the Android 8.1 Oreo update for the smartphones' users in several countries including India. Android 8.1 brings a slew of new features such as Neural Networks API, hamburger emoji fix and developer APIs (API level 27), as well as the latest optimizations, bug fixes, and security patches.
The update also adds battery saving navigation buttons, revamped power menu, new settings menu and Bluetooth battery percentage, according to the change log. The Android 8.1 Oreo update weighs about 866MB for Nokia 5 and 933MB for Nokia 6. As stated, the update comes with Android security patch for March 2018.
To recall, the Nokia 5 features a 5.2-inch HD 720p IPS LCD display. This device runs on Android 7.0 Nougat and is equipped with an octa-core Snapdragon 430 SoC. The processor is teamed up with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage space that can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.
The imaging aspects of the Nokia 5 include a 13MP main camera with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF and dual-LED flash. Up front, there is an 8MP selfie snapper with the same aperture. A 3,000mAh battery fuels the enetire package.
The Nokia 6, on the other hand, is fitted with a 5.5-inch FHD 1080p IPS LCD display. Under its hood, there is an octa-core Snapdragon 430 SoC teamed up with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage space. The default storage can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card.
On the optics front, the Nokia 6 flaunts a 16MP main snapper at its rear with dual-LED flash and PDAF. There is also an 8MP selfie shooter. The aperture of both the cameras are identical at f/2.0.
Running on Android 7.0 Nougat, this smartphone comes with dual speakers, NFC, OTG, and a fingerprint sensor as well. A 3,000mAh battery powers this smartphone with fast charging support.
HMD Global has also announced that both the Nokia 2 and Nokia 3 will be upgraded to Android 8.1 Oreo.
